Features: In language learning, idiomatic usage is extremely important. It can be said that the extent to which language learners master the idiomatic usage of the language they are learning directly affects their accuracy and naturalness in using it. Middle school students are in the foundational stage of developing good language habits. To enable them to learn English correctly, effectively, and naturally is the starting point and goal of English teaching in middle school. Based on this situation and idea, we have specifically compiled this Middle School English Idiomatic Usage Dictionary for middle school students. During the compilation process of this dictionary, we paid attention to the following points:
1. Practicality: Unlike general middle school English dictionaries that provide examples and explanations item by item based on word meanings, this dictionary focuses on explaining the areas where middle school students are prone to making mistakes or confusion, as well as the frequently tested topics in high school and junior high school exams. For words or usages that do not pose difficulties for middle school students, they are generally not explained or only briefly mentioned.
2. Accuracy: The renowned expert Professor Liu Chengpei once said, "When Chinese people discuss foreign languages (including English) or compile test questions, the examples should be well-founded and have sources. Sentences written by oneself may not always be reliable." Adhering to the principle of being responsible for students, we not only strive to ensure that the explanations are logical but also that they are well-supported by evidence during the compilation of this dictionary.
3. Modernity: Language is evolving, and idiomatic usage is also evolving. During the compilation process of this dictionary, we paid attention to incorporating the latest research findings in modern English.
4. Guidance: During the compilation of this dictionary, we not only specifically addressed the key points, difficulties, test points, and common mistakes in middle school English learning but also consciously integrated new concepts reflected in modern teaching materials, such as communicative English and cultural backgrounds, as well as the new trends in high school English exam questions in recent years. Additionally, we selected typical sentences from past high school English exam papers as examples, making this book a valuable guide.
