Features: A series of college English writing textbooks. The book is divided into four parts. The first part provides an overview of English writing knowledge and techniques, citing new findings in linguistics, analyzing and comparing the thinking, expression, and habits of different Eastern and Western ethnic groups, and proposing principles for writing idiomatic English. The second and third parts introduce writing knowledge and techniques from sentences to paragraphs, and then to larger texts, enabling students to achieve the goal of writing short essays in English, conveying information, and expressing ideas through the application of knowledge and techniques. The fourth part covers two special forms of English writing—writing summaries and book reports—tailored to the general requirements of college English education.
The book has the following features:
The entire book is written in an accessible and engaging style, fully embodying the humanistic spirit, allowing users to participate in discussions on an equal footing and enhance their confidence in writing idiomatic English essays. Each chapter is accompanied by a large number of exercises, with varying difficulty levels, allowing teachers and students to freely select and flexibly use them. The exercise layout adopts a scientific three-stage cycle method: "prediction—practice—effect evaluation." Prediction stimulates readers' curiosity; practice familiarizes them with writing techniques and imparts genuine knowledge; effect evaluation not only serves to review and reinforce the writing knowledge and techniques learned but also boosts readers' confidence in improving their writing skills.
Creatively integrating the use of punctuation into the discussion of the overall coherence and cohesion of the text, the book breaks away from the traditional approach of isolating punctuation in writing textbooks. Examples are primarily drawn from contemporary English and American original works, but they are not rigidly applied. This allows the book to both free itself from the constraints of Chinglish and meet the practical learning needs of Chinese students.
