The new curriculum standards provide a fresh interpretation of the nature, basic concepts, and curriculum design of Chinese subjects in primary and secondary schools, while also making significant adjustments to the extracurricular reading volume and reading materials for primary and secondary schools. It specifies the total extracurricular reading volume for students in the compulsory education stage and the senior high school stage, and lists reading materials for different grade levels, which provides guidance for the selection of extracurricular reading content for primary and secondary school students, thereby enhancing the scientific nature of reading and reducing blind spots. In accordance with the requirements of the new curriculum standards, Jiangsu Literature and Art Publishing House and Peking University Press jointly launched this series of "Guides to Extracurricular Reading for the Chinese Curriculum Standards." The series consists of sixty-seven titles, edited by the renowned writer and professor of the Chinese Department at Peking University, Cao Wenxuan. Each book is preceded by a preface to the literature, providing background knowledge to help students grasp the content they are reading. Additionally, based on the different characteristics of the book's content, reading tips or commentary content is included to help broaden students' reading perspectives and deepen their reading impressions. This series can offer primary and secondary school students a brand-new reading experience.
