Patient's question:
The baby has been born for six days. Since the third day, jaundice has appeared. Initially, it was measured as 12.9 on the head and 15.3 on the face. After taking Yinzhihuang at home for two days, it was measured as 11.9 on the third day and 11.3 on the fourth day. Is this indicator value normal? Should the baby be hospitalized for treatment or continue taking medication?Doctor's answer:
General blue light exposure typically requires three to four days. It is recommended to continue the treatment for a few more days while maintaining frequent breastfeeding to promote bowel movement and excretion. Usually, jaundice will recur several times before gradually improving.Infant jaundice can be either physiological or pathological. If it appears early, within 24 hours, it is considered abnormal. If it appears between 2 to 3 days, it is considered normal. I don’t know what unit you are referring to, but I assume it should be mg/dL. This level is within the normal physiological range and does not require hospitalization. Improvement is usually noticeable within about 10 days.
