Features: The 10 painters featured in this issue of "Shidai Guohua · Shanshui Album" all embody their creative value through unique artistic expressions and hold significant influence in the contemporary Chinese painting scene. Yu Zhixue paints snow-covered mountains that have never been depicted by ancient masters, Liu Pu leans toward a macro perspective and the overall ink charm, Zhang Fuxing is deeply connected to the landscapes of Yunnan and Guizhou, Bai Yunxiang explores the profound blackness of clouds and the pursuit of realistic spirit, Shi Jiangcheng holds an enduring affection for the Yangtze River, Zhou Fengjun admires the classical realm, Wang Yongliang intensifies the vast and desolate atmosphere, and Zeng Xianguo, Liu Gang, and Li Xiaosong emphasize the rhythm of brushwork and experiment with establishing new artistic conventions. These individual expressions within the exploration of combining tradition and modernity reflect both the shared cultural sophistication and the intrinsic essence of Chinese landscape painting, as well as the trend of contemporary landscape painting evolving toward a modern sensibility. Their practices teach us that modern landscape painting is not merely about depicting the shapes of modern mountains and rivers but more importantly about transforming the modern perception of nature into distinctive brushwork language. Without brushwork, there is no exploration of modern landscape painting, and without the individuality of brushwork, there can be no artistic creation.
