Features: The development of society, the transformation of art, and the diversification of aesthetics have posed new demands on the field of art and have also impacted art education to a certain extent. Against this backdrop, a sketchbook textbook merely serving as an interpretation and refinement of a fixed system can no longer meet the needs. Currently, in China's sketchbook teaching, traditional teaching content, methods, and even the entire teaching system have undergone certain changes to some extent. The emergence of various sketchbook styles and new interpretations of sketching may leave students feeling overwhelmed. In this context, compiling a "sketchbook textbook" is not without its difficulties. The reason lies in the fact that, on one hand, constructing a textbook based on the traditional sketchbook system framework ensures its scientificity and completeness, but precisely because of this, such a textbook lacks the ability to explain contemporary artistic phenomena. On the other hand, incorporating new sketchbook concepts is difficult to integrate reasonably into the traditional system and is prone to being one-sided. Therefore, when we began conceptualizing this book, we first considered these issues. We believe that the diversification of art and the ambiguity of artistic concepts are an undeniable reality. Given this, adhering to any single tradition, concept, or system is not an objective stance. With this in mind, we established two clear points. First, as can be seen from the discussions in each chapter, we do not equate sketching and sketching teaching with art, avoiding bringing sketching issues into metaphysical discussions about art, and instead focusing on the explanatory aspects of sketching itself to establish its position as a foundational teaching subject. Second, based on a comprehensive understanding of the various styles and forms of sketching currently in practice, as well as an understanding of artistic concepts and the relationship between sketching teaching and art, we objectively introduce the various concepts, methods, and techniques of sketching and provide objective explanations for the various issues that arise in sketching learning. Therefore, this "Sketching" does not target any particular system or viewpoint. As a textbook, this is an attempt. We would like to thank the comrades of Henan University Press for their efforts in bringing this book to fruition, as well as all the friends who provided images and other assistance during the writing process.
