Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: A few days ago, I suddenly felt itchy at the vaginal opening, and after a checkup, it was diagnosed as candidiasis (yeast infection). Therefore, I am very eager to know how to cure candidiasis, as well as relevant information about it. This includes symptoms, treatment duration, treatment methods, and treatment medications, etc.Duration of the current illness: 5 days
Current general condition: Feeling itchy
Medical history: Yesterday, during a checkup, moderate cervical erosion was also found. It was sudden and had never occurred before.
Doctor's answer:
This is a condition that requires a course of treatment to be cured. For candidiasis (yeast infection), an alkaline solution such as 2~4% sodium bicarbonate or soapy water should be used to rinse the external genitalia and vagina, altering the vaginal pH to make it unfavorable for yeast growth. After rinsing, antifungal tablets or suppositories should be inserted into the vagina, with a dosage of 100,000~200,000 units each time, once daily, for a course of 10~14 days. Additionally, a 3% clotrimazole cream can be applied to the external genitalia for better results. For persistent cases, fluconazole can be taken orally at a dose of 150 mg once daily for three consecutive days. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed, and boiled daily. After completing one course of treatment, a negative fungal test result is required. Subsequent follow-up tests should also be negative after each menstrual cycle. Continuous consolidation treatment for three additional courses is necessary to confirm cure. It is recommended that the male partner also undergo treatment. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Condoms are advisable during sexual activity.
