Features: This is a comparative study of Chinese and Western literature with a focus on the panpoetic tradition in the pre-modern West, as indicated by the title. The main subject of this paper is the panpoetic tradition in the West, a phenomenon that has spanned over two thousand years. In the process of review, this paper uses the relevant traditions of Chinese poetry as a reference, thereby establishing a comparative context between China and the West. The paper attempts to clarify the content of the panpoetic phenomenon and its interrelationships from three levels: the concept of poetry, poetic theory, and poetic practice, and conducts a theoretical analysis based on this foundation. In addition to the "Introduction," the main body of the paper is divided into three chapters. The "Introduction" explains the title of the paper.
Chapter 1 reviews the panpoetic phenomenon in the West from a conceptual perspective within the comparative context of China and the West.
Chapter 2 reviews the panpoetic phenomenon in the West from a theoretical and practical perspective within the comparative context of China and the West.
Chapter 3 provides a concluding analysis of the pre-modern panpoetic tradition in the West. Regarding pre-modern Western poetry, panpoetics is a key issue that affects the entire field. The paper also attempts to articulate its own views on various issues arising from the panpoetic tradition, such as Western poetic studies, comparative studies of Chinese and Western poetry, and fundamental theoretical research on poetry. The author hopes that all this foundational work will have a positive impact on future poetic research.
