News commentary is both a news genre and falls under the broad category of literature. It is a general term for various types of editorials, columnists' articles, short comments, editorial notes, column comments, and analytical reviews commonly used in modern news media. News commentary studies is a highly political and practical science. From the content perspective, it generally includes three aspects: first, the basic knowledge and fundamental principles of news commentary; second, the basic principles and methods of news commentary work; and third, the basic techniques and methods of news commentary writing. The key is news commentary writing, as it is not only a fundamental course in news practice that university students majoring in journalism must master, but also a basic skill that all practitioners should possess. The purpose of studying news commentary studies is: to understand the status, characteristics, and functions of news commentary; to learn the basic knowledge of major genres of news commentary; and to master the fundamental principles and writing techniques and methods of news commentary. Studying news commentary knowledge is aimed at guiding the practice of commentary work and commentary writing.
