Probenecid and β-lactam antibiotics

Features: The purpose of writing this book is to introduce the pharmacokinetic characteristics of probenecid to physicians working on the front lines of clinical practice, as well as the trajectory and progress of domestic and international research on the combined use of probenecid with β-lactam antibiotics. These research topics can be broadly divided into two parts: one is to use probenecid as a conventional tool drug to observe some basic characteristics of pharmacokinetic parameters of various β-lactam antibiotics; the other is to use probenecid in combination with various β-lactam antibiotics for the treatment of diseases. The book describes the specific regimens of this combined use (such as dosage and administration) as detailed as possible to provide references for clinicians when using probenecid with β-lactam antibiotics. Since research in this field in China has just begun, the book mainly references foreign related research literature. As people's understanding of the special value of probenecid in optimizing the PK/PD characteristics of β-lactam antibiotics continues to deepen, more scholars should pay attention to and engage in research in this area, which will undoubtedly benefit the conservation of antibiotic resources and the scientific and rational use of β-lactam antibiotics. This is far more realistic than expecting more and newer antibiotics to be developed.
