Features: In response to the call of the Ministry of Education to deepen educational reform and strengthen textbook construction, we have compiled this textbook "Medical Physiology" for use by five-year undergraduate medical students. Physiology is an important foundational course in medical education, and its teaching objectives should align with the overall goals of undergraduate medical education, which are to strengthen foundational knowledge, reduce specialization, and cultivate broadly knowledgeable medical graduates. Under the new circumstances of the rapid expansion and deepening of physiological knowledge, especially in the areas of cells and molecules, the question of what and how to write a physiology textbook has always been a topic of consideration for many physiology teachers. Based on the study and analysis of existing textbooks both domestically and internationally, we have made efforts in the following aspects. First, we have strengthened the connection between theory and practice, providing appropriate examples related to clinical practice for theoretical knowledge closely linked to clinical medicine, so that students have a clear purpose in their learning, enhance their interest, and achieve a deeper understanding and retention of the knowledge. Second, we have expanded the reading material by establishing a "Materials" section in each chapter, which includes new developments with application prospects, concise introductions to inspiring scientific history, classic or new experimental methods, etc., guiding students to understand that scientific thinking methods and the arduous process of practice are important principles for scientific progress. Third, we have added some summary diagrams and tables to help students learn to summarize, refine, and synthesize the knowledge they have learned. Additionally, this book has appropriately included English titles and professional terms, accompanied by English interpretations containing important physiological vocabulary and a CD-ROM containing all the diagrams and tables. At the end of the book, we have provided a list of main reference books; in the index, English terms are annotated after the Chinese names. We hope these efforts will help students master professional English.
