Features: Since the publication of the first edition of the "New Nursing Diagnosis Handbook" in 1990, it has been well-received by nursing professionals and nursing educators. At the end of September 1995, the National Nursing Diagnosis Symposium was held in Huangshan, organized by the Nursing Center of the Ministry of Health. Delegates at the symposium discussed the significance of nursing diagnosis, the application of nursing diagnoses formulated by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), and how China could align with international standards. They reached certain consensus. It was agreed that clinical nursing reform in China was imperative. It was essential to strengthen the application of the nursing process based on the development of systematic and holistic nursing to ensure high-quality care for patients. Therefore, it was necessary to popularize and enhance education in nursing diagnosis. At its 11th meeting in 1994, NANDA had revised and supplemented the existing nursing diagnoses. Some hospitals in China had gained experience in applying them over the past few years. To update knowledge and keep pace with the times, after reaching a copyright agreement with NANDA, the 128 newly formulated nursing diagnoses by NANDA are translated here in their original form as Chapter , providing readers with a comprehensive understanding of the current progress in nursing diagnosis.
Since the current nursing diagnoses cannot cover all clinical issues and some require collaborative management with other healthcare professionals, some scholars refer to such issues as "collaborative problems." We find this approach quite practical in clinical practice, and it is elaborated on in Chapter . Chapters and introduce the practical application of the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in clinical settings. They primarily describe how to conduct assessments and diagnoses based on the functional health patterns classification system and how to develop a nursing care plan. Recent advancements in care planning, such as the application of standardized care plans, are also introduced.
The final chapter provides detailed information on common nursing diagnoses. These diagnoses are representative in terms of physiological, psychological, and social content, and some newly formulated diagnoses are also included. The sections on assessment content, basis for interventions, expected outcomes, and nursing measures are designed to help readers gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of each nursing diagnosis and find it helpful in clinical practice.
