Features: VOA's English teaching program, with its popular American language, authentic American pronunciation, and rich content, has a significant impact on a broad range of English learners in China, especially young students. It has become an effective way for people to learn American English and practice listening and speaking skills, and has been included as an important component in the current College English Listening Tests (Levels 4-6). This series of books, dedicated to readers, selects newly broadcast program content and is accompanied by MP3 audio CDs read by experienced VOA news anchors, serving as a stepping stone for middle school students, university students, College English Test (CET) 4-6 takers, and adult readers who are less accustomed to using English to rapidly improve their listening, speaking, and reading skills.
"Café Americain" is a new VOA basic language teaching program that began broadcasting in 2004. Through the on-site interviews of two hosts in a café, it introduces the cultural arts and social customs favored by young Americans, featuring engaging content and lively dialogues that allow readers to learn American English while gaining insights into U.S. fashion culture. Since the current episodes of "Café Americain" are limited, this book also includes selected content from "Pop American English." This is another recent English teaching program by VOA, which uses dialogues between American university students and Chinese exchange students to explain slang commonly used by young Americans in various university life scenarios. It is humorous, relaxed, and practical.
It can be said that "Café Americain" and "Pop American English" are the two most outstanding VOA English programs to date, and they are also the most suitable for university students and a broad audience with intermediate English proficiency.
