Author: Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Appraisal Group
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1997-09-01
Features: This book is the seventeenth volume of the multi-volume Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy compiles outstanding works selected by the Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Appraisal Group during their nationwide tours for appraisal. All works included are reproduced from the original photographs. This volume features a selection of artifacts appraised by the group in nine institutions in Sichuan Province and Chongqing City in 1989, totaling 816 pieces. The works within each unit of this volume are arranged by historical dynasties in China, with artists within each dynasty ordered by their lifespan. For artists whose lifespans span two dynasties, their works are attributed to the dynasty traditionally associated with them in history. Works by the same artist are arranged in chronological order of their creation, with undated works placed after those with dates specified. Anonymous works or those with unknown creators or birth and death years are placed at the end of each dynasty's section according to their stylistic period. Due to layout constraints, there may be some discrepancies in the order of illustrations. Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy selects only the best works from Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Bibliography, so the numbering of works in Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy is not continuous. For the convenience of readers, the corresponding Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Bibliography is appended at the end of Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. Works included in Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy are marked with a "△" in the notes section of Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Bibliography. All works selected for this volume can be found in the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Bibliography for details on their form, material, ink color, and dimensions. The works in this volume are generally consistent with the appraisals of the appraisal group. For a few works with differing opinions, symbols such as ①, ②, ③ are used in the notes section of the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Bibliography to indicate the different views. Readers can refer to the opinions of each expert at the bottom of the page according to the symbols for further discussion.
