Author: Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Appraisal Group
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1998-10-01
Features: This is Volume 6 of the multi-volume Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy compiles outstanding works selected by the Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Appraisal Group during their nationwide appraisal tours, with all included works reproduced from original photographs.
Volume 2 of this series includes part of the collections appraised by the group in 21 units in Jiangsu Province in 1986, totaling 988 pieces.
Volume 3 organizes the works by collection units and arranges them in chronological order of appraisal, with numbering such as Su1, Su2, Su3, etc.
Volume 4 arranges the works within each unit according to Chinese historical dynasties, with each dynasty further ordered by the lifespan of the artists. For artists whose lifespans span two dynasties, their works are attributed to the historically traditional dynasty. Works by the same artist are arranged in order of self-dated creation, with undated works placed after those with dates. Anonymous works or those whose authors are yet to be identified are placed at the end of each dynasty based on stylistic dating. Due to technical limitations in layout design, there may be discrepancies in the order of illustrations.
Volume 5 generally retains the original titles and names for famous paintings and calligraphy with clear provenance and historical records as genuine.
Volume 6 marks the number of each work below its illustration, allowing readers to refer to the era, name, and author at the bottom of the page by number.
Volume 7 marks illustrations of long scrolls and multi-sheet works with symbols such as (1), (2), (3) to indicate their order. For excessively long horizontal scrolls or scrolls with too many pages, only selected portions are published.
Volume 8 Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy only selects outstanding works from Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, so the numbering in Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy is not continuous. For convenience, the corresponding Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy is appended at the end of Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. Works included in Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy are marked with [▲] in the notes section of Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. All works selected in this volume can be consulted in the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy for details on form, material, ink color, and dimensions.
Volume 9 In the creation date column of the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the self-dated year by the artist is supplemented with the Common Era, dynasty era, or sexagenary cycle.
Volume 10 Works co-created by multiple artists in this volume are titled after one of the collaborators. In the notes section of the same work in the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, symbols such as ①, ②, ③ are marked to indicate other collaborators, which can be referred to at the bottom of the page for their names.
Volume 11 The works included in this volume are generally based on consensus among the appraisal group. For a few works with differing opinions, symbols such as ①, ②, ③ are marked in the notes section of the appended Catalog of Ancient Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, allowing readers to refer to the opinions of each party at the bottom of the page for further discussion.
