Features: This book is part of the "Treasures in Golden Houses" series. It provides a concise discussion on the origins of zitan and huanglihua, their characteristics in different eras, the collection histories of different individuals, and price comparisons across various periods. It fully explains the collectible value that has been passed down to the present, making it an accessible and specialized guide for collectors. According to relevant experts, the following conclusions have been drawn regarding the origins and naming of zitan:
1. Sandalwood Zitan, originating from Mysore in southern India, where the pigment is insoluble. Scientific name: Sandalwood Zitan. Commonly referred to as Zitan. Named based on texture and color, including names such as Rhino Horn Zitan, Star Zitan, Blood Zitan, and Chicken Blood Zitan.
2. (Huanglihua Pattern Zitan), originating from countries surrounding southern China and southwestern India. Scientific name: Indian Rosewood. Commercial name: Flowering Tree Wood. Named based on texture and color, including names such as Cow Hair Zitan and Flowering Tree Wood Flower Zitan. Sandalwood Zitan has high oil content, with a specific gravity generally above 1.1 or 1.3, and less than 1 for lighter varieties. The oil-rich types almost lack pores, appearing smooth and glossy like polished black plastic. Flowering Tree Wood Zitan has less oil, with a specific gravity of 1.1 or less. The pores are relatively sparse, and the cow hair and flowering tree wood patterns are clearly visible. Over centuries of air-drying, photochemical changes, and exposure to heat and cold, as well as expansion and contraction, the oil molecules and water molecules in the zitan's essential oil, (gum), and fibers have slowly moved, with some being mercilessly oxidized, causing a decrease in specific gravity.
