Publishing Date: 2004-07-01
Features: This textbook is divided into two parts: the Upper Part (Basic Section) and the Lower Part (Expansion Section). The Upper Part follows the "Three Basics" (basic concepts, basic theories, and basic skills) of physiology teaching, systematically introducing the fundamental principles of human functional activities, catering to the five-year curriculum. The Lower Part focuses on recent research hotspots and new advancements in physiology, including ion channels, cellular signal transduction, neuroendocrinology, and the regulation of the neuroendocrine-immune network, as well as the integrated research achievements of traditional Chinese and Western medicine on the mechanism of acupuncture analgesia. The content of the Lower Part meets the teaching needs of the seven-year program and graduate students, and can also serve as elective courses or academic lecture materials for undergraduate students. Considering the diversity of disciplines and varying teaching hours in the seven-year program, different disciplines can use the Upper Part as the core teaching content and select relevant chapters from the Lower Part based on their professional training objectives. The features of this textbook have completely liberated physiology teaching from the long-standing state where five-year and seven-year physiology textbooks and teaching content were not differentiated, laying a foundation for rationalizing the teaching levels of physiology. As a concrete outcome of the "Beijing Municipal University Reform Pilot Project" Reform and Practice of Medical Physiology Curriculum, this textbook has largely implemented the design concept of the research project. Guided by principles of advancement, scientific rigor, and practicality, some preliminary attempts have been made. In addition to introducing new advancements in physiology in the Lower Part, the Upper Part incorporates some mature new perspectives in fundamental theories and briefly introduces certain new methods and theories (in FangSong font). Based on feedback from previous graduates, theoretical and clinical connections have been added. When explaining physiology theories and concepts, the text transitions smoothly toward clinical applications and includes a "Clinical Correlations" section (in FangSong font), selecting relevant diseases and linking them to their physiological foundations. Furthermore, this textbook has increased the number of English terminology and attempted to adopt an English terminology index.
