Features: I am very happy and grateful that this book can be republished by Suzhou University Press. It was written in 1988 and published by Hunan Education Press in January 1989, which has been ten years since then. When the book was about to be published, Hunan People's Publishing House was abolished, and a storm hit the Hunan publishing industry, affecting the normal distribution of the book. As a result, almost no one saw the book after its publication, and I am very sorry. I have always hoped that it could be republished. The content of this book is self-evident once readers get it. It is a work record from when I served as a graduate supervisor in 1986. In 1988, I compiled it into a book and submitted it to Hunan Education Press, hoping that other graduate supervisors could understand how I guided my own graduate students, and that graduate students could learn how Yu Guangyuan's graduate students received their supervisors' guidance, serving as a platform for experience exchange. Of course, due to the poor distribution of the book, this exchange effect was never achieved. Except for the Journal of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences publishing many issues of the fifty letters I wrote to my graduate students, I received no other feedback. Now, the five graduate students I am communicating with have graduated for ten years and are working in their respective positions. Zhongdong, the eldest senior brother, seems the youngest, and he is now a "freelancer" active in the field of economic consulting. Huang Xiaoxiang became an official, recently serving as Deputy Secretary-General of the Sichuan Provincial Committee and now as the top leader in Neijiang City. Zhu Zhengming has gone into business and is an entrepreneur. Xiao Lian is the oldest and is now a researcher at the Institute of American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Wang Shiqin has been researching stock market issues at the Shenzhen Comprehensive Reform and Development Research Institute since graduation, and newspapers have described him as a master of the Chinese stock market. I have been in touch with them all along, and our friendship has been maintained. However, I don't want them to write anything for the republished book. In principle, republishing this book after ten years should include some supplements and revisions. In these ten years, I have only accepted a few more junior students as my graduate supervisors, but I haven't done any graduate supervisor work. However, I would like to take on a few more graduate students in the future. I am still very concerned about such matters, not because I have nothing new to say, but because I hope this book can be republished soon. After the republishing, I would like to hear some feedback and conduct some research on the matter, and then return to the topic of graduate education. Perhaps by then, the work will be better. In this preface, I will only write these things.
