Features: Shanghai New Basic Education Experimental School: Established in September 1996, Shanghai New Basic Education Experimental School was originally named Shanghai Jinhui School. It is a new-style school with a nine-year education system. Upon entering the campus, a large plaza paved with colorful bricks, an stainless steel sculpture, and a two-story winding corridor connect the school's teaching buildings, experimental buildings, auxiliary buildings, gymnasium, and dining hall. The campus is shaded by green trees year-round, with flowers blooming continuously, complemented by the well-arranged student art exhibitions. The school has advanced educational philosophies and a dedicated, young, highly educated teaching staff who love their students, work together, and are full of initiative. At two levels—teaching research groups and grade-level groups—the school offers interest-based elective courses and inquiry courses suitable for all age groups, pursuing the excellence of both scientific and humanistic education. The "New Basic Education" research is a national "Nineth Five-Year Plan" key project led by Professor Ye Lan, Vice President of the Chinese Educational Society, Director of the Institute of Basic Education Reform and Development at East China Normal University, Director of the Shanghai New Basic Education Research Institute, and Honorary Principal of Shanghai New Basic Education Experimental School. The main task is to form new concepts of basic education in the 21st century and to create a new model of basic education in China for the 21st century. The "new" in "New Basic Education" is reflected in both theoretical innovation and practical innovation, primarily in the following three aspects:
1. Updating the concept of New Basic Education: New Basic Education redefines the essence of basic education, viewing it as laying a foundation for students' lifelong learning and active development. This has led to a modern educational concept system centered around a life philosophy, encompassing goals, values, objects, activities, and management.
2. Updating the daily activity methods of campus education: New Basic Education, starting from the perspective of activities, emphasizes innovating the daily practices of classroom education and class life that students are immersed in, creating a favorable growth environment and developmental foundation for the awakening of individual life awareness and the flourishing of vitality.
3. Updating the concept of teachers' and students' survival methods in school: It transforms the survival methods of teachers and students in school from passive and adaptive survival to proactive and continuously self-renewing developmental survival.
This book is divided into four parts, covering topics such as "Building a New Foundation: Experimental Territory for Creating New-Style Schools in the 21st Century," "Focusing on New Basic Education Experiments to Promote Teacher Development," and "Making the Campus Forum a Spiritual Home for Teachers and Students."
