Features: In 1991, the authors received funding from the National Social Science Fund of China to research the topic "Comparative Study of Economic Development in Major Countries." The study focused on five vast and populous nations—America, the Soviet Union, Brazil, India, and China—as its subjects, with the period of comparison spanning from 1945 to 1989, which was the 45 years following World War II. In 1997, the monograph "Comparative Study of Economic Development in Major Countries" was published by the People's Publishing House. At the time, the idea was to compare some vast and populous major countries, studying their experiences and lessons in economic development, which would hold more direct reference value for China. Now, 15 years have passed, and since the 1990s, the world economy has undergone tremendous changes, as have China's economy and society. My colleague, Li Jie, and I have been inspired to continue researching this issue.
