Features: This book is based on the changing global political landscape and the new developments in comparative public administration, conducting a comprehensive comparative study of government bureaucracies in modern nation-states. The author categorically examines both the "classical" administrative systems of developed countries and the "variant" administrative systems, as well as the bureaucratic-dominated administrative systems of developing countries. In-depth analyses are provided on the administrative organizations, senior civil servants, and the relationship between administration and politics in representative countries of each administrative system. Additionally, the book offers insightful discussions on the evolutionary history of comparative public administration, as well as closely related disciplines such as comparative political science, development administration/management, and comparative public policy. It also explores the concept of bureaucracy, the structural types of the civil service system, administrative ecological environments, Riggs' "prism" model, the construction of universal public administration, the correspondence between regime types and bureaucratic organizational types, the historical origins of national administrative systems, and modernization, development, and change concepts related to institutional transformation.
