Features: Since the 1990s of the 20th century, the "China Threat Theory" has become a widely accepted discourse and perception in American society regarding the current situation and future trajectory of China. The emergence and popularity of the "China Threat Theory" have had very detrimental effects on the long-term development of US-China relations, the establishment of China's international image, the pursuit of a favorable international environment for China's development, and the peace and security of the Asia-Pacific region. This book draws on postcolonial theory, which has a broad influence in American academia, particularly Edward Said's "Orientalism" paradigm. It employs historical and discourse analysis methods to examine the specific content, origins, and operational mechanisms of the widely prevalent "China Threat Theory" in American society. It views the Orientalism in American history from two aspects—mindset and theoretical resources—as a major source of the current "China Threat Theory," analyzes the inheritance relationship between the "China Threat Theory" and Orientalism, and thereby provides an critique and commentary on the so-called "China Threat Theory" in the United States.
