Features: The "Great Dictionary" is a large-scale comprehensive dictionary. Its publication fills a gap in Chinese lexicography. To date, "Ci Hai" is the only large-scale comprehensive dictionary in China, which includes single characters and general terms, as well as specialized terms from various fields, combining the functions of a general dictionary and a specialized dictionary. It features a rich vocabulary, convenient retrieval, strong practicality, and is widely favored by readers. With the accelerating pace of human knowledge accumulation and innovation and the improvement of China's national cultural quality, many readers with higher educational backgrounds have raised higher demands for the use of "Ci Hai." Therefore, while continuing to compile new editions of "Ci Hai" to meet the needs of the times, it is necessary to compile a larger-scale, more comprehensive, and richer comprehensive dictionary than "Ci Hai." The compilation of "The Great Dictionary" is based on "Ci Hai," inheriting its strengths and expanding upon them, with a focus on adding new fields and new terms and meanings in various disciplines that have not yet been covered by "Ci Hai," while appropriately filling in gaps. The entire dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries, totaling about 50 million words, which is more than twice the size of "Ci Hai." It is compiled and published in volumes according to subject categories. Volume One includes over 8,500 medical and pharmaceutical terms, with a selection scope covering: basic terminology in various disciplines of medical and health care, medical figures, historical and literary documents of traditional Chinese medicine, major theories and doctrines, physiological and pathological conditions and disease names of each human system, diagnostic methods for diseases, medical devices, as well as disease names and pathogens in medical microbiology, parasitology, and medical parasitology that are related to the human body and closely linked to it. Volume Two is organized into three major categories: General, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Modern Medicine. Among them, Traditional Chinese Medicine is divided according to its traditional academic conventions into general terminology, historical and literary studies of medicine, basic theories, pharmaceuticals and prescriptions, health preservation, and clinical medicine. Modern Medicine is arranged into basic medicine, clinical medicine, rehabilitation medicine, preventive medicine, as well as military medicine and other special medical fields, and pharmacy. The classification categories are only considered for the convenience of retrieval and do not represent the academic system.
