Features: "The Great Dictionary" is a large-scale comprehensive dictionary. Its publication fills a gap in Chinese lexicography. To date, "The Ci Hai" is the only large-scale comprehensive dictionary in China, which includes both single characters and common terms, as well as specialized terms across various fields, combining the functions of a general dictionary and a specialized dictionary. It features a rich vocabulary, convenient retrieval, strong practicality, and is widely favored by readers. With the accelerated pace of human knowledge accumulation and innovation and the improvement of China's cultural literacy, many readers with higher educational backgrounds have raised higher demands for the retrieval of "The Ci Hai." Therefore, while continuing to compile the new edition of "The Ci Hai" to meet the needs of the times, it is necessary to compile a larger-scale, more comprehensive, and richer dictionary than "The Ci Hai." The compilation of "The Great Dictionary" is based on "The Ci Hai," inheriting its strengths and expanding upon them, with a focus on adding new fields and terms/meanings in various disciplines that have not been covered in "The Ci Hai," as well as appropriately filling in gaps. The entire dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries and about 50 million words, more than twice that of "The Ci Hai." It is compiled and published in volumes according to subject categories. Volume One includes over 6,272 entries related to the philosophy discipline. The selection scope includes nouns and terms, schools of thought, figures, organizations and events, works and publications, etc. Volume Two is organized into major categories such as the biographies and works of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin, the biographies and works of the main leaders of the Communist Party of China, Marxist philosophy, the history of Chinese philosophy, the history of Confucian studies, the history of foreign philosophy, logic, aesthetics, ethics, and the philosophy of science and technology. Each major category is further divided into several subcategories. The classification is primarily for the convenience of retrieval and does not represent any specific disciplinary system. Volume Three includes interdisciplinary entries related to relevant disciplines, with each entry selected by one discipline based on its primary aspect, while other disciplines only include terms related to it.
