Features: The authors are experts and clinical physicians at the National Center for Disaster Prevention and Control, China CDC, who have been engaged in poison control work for many years. Our work involves not only physicians from grassroots health centers but also frequently receives calls for help from the general public. We provide consultation and assistance for the difficulties they encounter when rescuing victims of toxic substance poisoning, as well as guidance on how to perform first aid and self-rescue when exposed to toxic substances in daily life. We also participate in emergency rescue and on-site investigations of major poisoning incidents under the unified arrangement of higher authorities. We deeply understand that the field of poison control is not limited to consultation and on-site first aid but must be supplemented by necessary health education and technical training. Therefore, we fully recognize the importance and necessity of science popularization. Through inquiries on the hotline, on-site first aid, interactions with the public, and responses to their questions, we have learned that everyday substances like food, cosmetics, common medications, and household chemicals can sometimes pose significant hazards.
