What is Tourette Syndrome?

Patient's question:

The child has had convulsions similar to epilepsy. I searched online and feel that it might be tic disorder. So, what exactly is tic disorder?

Doctor's answer:

Tics disorder is similar to epilepsy. Tics primarily occur during childhood and adolescence. It is a condition characterized by involuntary, repetitive, rapid motor tics, such as vocal tics or tics involving one or more muscles. In addition to the above manifestations, some children may also exhibit symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, with a duration of at least two weeks. If the course of the illness does not exceed one year, it is referred to as transient tics disorder, while chronic tics disorder is defined as lasting for more than one year.
