What should I do if the results of the Down syndrome screening are high-risk?

Patient's question:

The other day, my husband and I went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up. The doctor said it was time for us to have the Down syndrome screening. There were many people at the hospital, and we had to wait for a whole afternoon to finish the test. Later, when the results came out, all the doctors had already gone home, so they told me to come back the next day. What should I do if the Down syndrome screening results are high-risk?

Doctor's answer:

The screening results are high-risk, suggesting an amniocentesis should be performed. However, even if high-risk, it does not necessarily mean the baby has Down syndrome, but for safety, it is still recommended to do DS screening!
Tone screening is the abbreviation for prenatal screening for Down syndrome. The purpose is to determine the risk of the fetus having Down syndrome by testing the pregnant woman's blood. If the tone screening results show a high risk of the fetus having Down syndrome, further diagnostic tests such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling should be performed.
