"Country singer and sausage purveyor Jimmy Dean once told Schulz, ‘You don’t look like a cartoonist; you look like a pharmacist.’ He was absolutely right. Schulz was graceful in demeanor and meticulous in style." — Rita Johnson (author of The Story of Charles M. Schulz)
"He used simple lines and subtle humor to touch on taboos of the time, such as faith, prejudice, despair, loneliness, cruelty, and hopelessness. The characters he drew were contemplative, speaking bluntly and hitting the mark." — David Michaelis (biographer of Schulz)
You know, happiness doesn’t mean everything! — Lucy
Little Snoopy got into trouble. He convinced a girl to go to Paris with him in kindergarten—even though he didn’t even know where Paris was—and was severely punished for staying after school. No one hated kindergarten more than Snoopy, and he deliberately caused trouble in every way: he drank all the water used for mixing colors during his painting assignment; he wore someone else’s shoes when learning to tie his shoelaces; during nap time, he sat up and read the newspaper, even trying to get the teacher to look at the car advertisements. According to him, his kindergarten life was “like a messy coloring book.”
A new school year began, and Snoopy would rather live under his bed than return to kindergarten. His brothers, the thin Andy and the fat Olaf, suddenly appeared in front of his doghouse. The kind Charlie Brown knocked on every door, trying to convince the neighbors to adopt them. After failing to find a home, they followed Snoopy’s advice and decided to go to another brother, Spike, to continue their search for happiness. It was said that Spike knew Mickey Mouse, who might help them find a job in Hollywood.
The puppies embarked on another-like journey toward a new future, but unfortunately, their sense of direction was terrible. They quickly strayed off course, intending to go to the desert but ended up wandering into the snow-covered Alaskan wilderness. They had to find some dog-sledding work there. Fortunately, the Earth is round, and after a few months, they returned to Snoopy’s house again.
