To prevent the Dragon Balls from being used by the bad guys, Goku and his friends had to make a silly wish for shorts first. After the Dragon God grants a wish, it must wait a year before appearing again. During this time, Goku went to Master Roshi to train and then resumed his journey to find the Dragon Balls. Three years later, at the World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku reunited with his friends once again.
