Features: Based on the aforementioned reasons, self-esteem has long been one of the research fields of interest to psychologists and educators, particularly social psychologists and personality psychologists. The study of self-esteem has a history of over a century. However, in China, scientific and systematic research on self-esteem started relatively late, and to date, there has been no academic work dedicated solely to the topic of self-esteem. As early as eight years ago, Comrade Wei Yunhua developed an interest in the subject of self-esteem while pursuing a doctoral degree. As a member of both the thesis review committee and the defense committee, I reviewed Comrade Wei Yunhua's doctoral thesis and participated in his thesis defense. The Psychological Development and Education of Self-Esteem is a specialized work written by Comrade Wei Yunhua, based on his doctoral thesis and incorporating research findings and relevant materials from both domestic and international studies on self-esteem. This book not only scientifically explains the concept, theory, structure, and measurement methods of self-esteem but also systematically analyzes various factors influencing its development (including personal factors, family factors, school factors, and sociocultural factors, etc.). Additionally, it offers numerous effective suggestions and concrete measures for parents and primary and secondary school teachers on how to help children cultivate self-esteem. For example, in Chapter 2, the author introduces how to use the "three-column technique" to correct children's erroneous self-perception; in Chapter 5, the author presents specific methods for accurate self-assessment; in Chapter 6, the author proposes numerous effective measures for parents on how to accurately understand their children, recognize their strengths and weaknesses, communicate effectively with them using self-esteem-affirming language, correct their problems, praise and criticize them appropriately, and enhance their sense of achievement and confidence; and in Chapter 7, the author offers many effective suggestions for primary and secondary school teachers to improve students' self-esteem. Furthermore, it provides many actionable measures and methods for adults to enhance their self-esteem in learning, work, and daily life. The book includes numerous typical case studies that reveal the various self-esteem-related issues commonly encountered by children or adults in real life. These suggestions, methods, measures, and case studies make the book not only highly practical and readable but also highly targeted and actionable.
