It profoundly exposes the predatory nature of capitalist society. Masao Oman, the general manager of the Osaka Bank, appears to be a successful and respected banker, but secretly maintains mistresses and lives a debauched life with multiple women. He manipulates his daughter's marriages to high-ranking officials to establish crony relationships, aiming to achieve his ambition of merging with other banks. Masao's eldest son, Teppei, is a talented and ambitious young man who borrows money to build blast furnaces, but because he bears a strong resemblance to his grandfather, Masao suspects he is the result of an incestuous relationship between his wife and father, and cannot fully support him. To realize his ambitions, Masao also designs a sinister trap, taking advantage of Teppei's company's financial difficulties, gradually leading him into a deeper crisis.
