Features: "China's Soul: Grand Mansions" collects 10 traditional ancient residences that remain today, along with interviews with 7 contemporary architectural masters. It is both an exploration of China's residential cultural heritage and an examination of the expression of Chinese qualities in contemporary architectural practice. The book has three distinctive features:
1. A perspective that bridges the past and the present, with a focus on the future;
2. Emphasis on existing materials, even more so on first-hand materials (nearly 300 photos in the book are selected from thousands of photographs taken on-site);
3. Examining tradition and understanding tradition through contemporary practice and case studies of architectural works.
