In March 2022, the Tengchong Volcanic Geothermal National Geopark was designated as one of the "First Batch of National Science Popularization Education Bases (2021–2025)" by the China Association for Science and Technology. Located at the junction of the Eurasian Plate and the Indian Ocean Plate, the park preserves 97 Cenozoic volcanoes and 88 hot spring and geothermal sites, forming a natural carrier for geological scientific research and science popularization.
The park features the Rehai Geothermal and Geological Museum, the Volcanic Geology Science Museum, and a Volcano Experience Center. These facilities systematically present geological knowledge through 3D graphics and immersive experiences. The base regularly organizes Earth Day events, collaborates with universities on practical teaching, and hosts study tour summer camps, receiving over 10,000 study tour participants annually.
