Xingping Ancient Town

Located in Xingping Town, Yangshuo County, Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Xingping Ancient Town is a Famous Historical and Cultural Town of China and a National Famous Town for Featured Landscape Tourism. In 2022, it was included in the first batch of Guangxi's Intangible Cultural Heritage list for millennium-old place names. The town preserves ancient streets, bridges, opera stages, and temples dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Among them, the Old Street stretches about 1,000 meters from the southeast of the ancient town to Rongshu Tan and the Xingping Wharf, where guild halls from various provinces are situated. Notably, the background scenery of the 20-yuan banknote in the fifth series of the Renminbi is derived from the Yuanbao Mountain landscape in Dahebei Village here.

The town was originally established in the first year of the Ganlu era of the Eastern Wu regime during the Three Kingdoms period (265 AD) as the seat of Shang'an County. During the Taishi era of the Jin Dynasty, Shang'an County was renamed Xiping County, with the administrative seat remaining unchanged. In the 10th year of the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty (590 AD), Xiping County was abolished and replaced by Yangshuo County. The Li River flows through 20 kilometers of the town's southwest, forming eight major scenic areas including the Nine Horses Fresco Hill, Yellow Cloth Shoal, and Lianhua Rock. These areas encompass the Ming Dynasty Tengjiao Nunnery and a fishing village visited by Sun Yat-sen in 1921. The town's popularity surged further after President Clinton visited the fishing village in 1998. In 2024, it was selected as a National Boutique Rural Tourism Route, and Dahebei Village became the first "Zero-Carbon Village" in the five southern provinces and autonomous regions.

Adopting a "Party Building Cultural Tourism" development model, the town received 5.16 million visitors and generated 865 million yuan in tourism revenue in 2023. Plans for 2025 include the construction of the Xiaohebei Ecological Leisure Park and the promotion of comprehensive land consolidation projects in Jiangcun. Open to visitors free of charge year-round, the town offers Party Member Vanguard Service Posts and a free shuttle bus service.
