Tongling Grand Canyon is a National AAAA-level scenic area located in Xinling Village, Hurun Town, Jingxi City, Baise, Guangxi. It lies 32 kilometers from downtown Jingxi and stretches for 3.8 kilometers. The canyon system is formed by the Tongling Gorge, Nianba Gorge, and connecting underground rivers and tunnels.
Originally a blind valley created by geological movements, the canyon features a "skylight" formed after the top collapsed, leaving behind an arched cliff structure. Highlights include the Tongling Great Waterfall with a single-drop height of 188.6 meters, rare plant communities dating back to the Jurassic period (such as ferns), and historical sites linked to Nong Zhigao, a Zhuang ethnic leader from the Northern Song Dynasty.
Inside the canyon, you can find ancient cliff burials and stalactite clusters in karst caves. With a forest coverage rate of over 95%, it is home to more than 2,300 plant species, including over 600 rare or medicinal plants, earning it the title of "China's Zhuang Medicine Garden."
The scenic area offers accommodation at Tongling Villa, providing an experience of traditional Zhuang dwellings. Visitors can also enjoy intangible cultural heritage activities like Zhuang brocade and embroidery ball making, as well as purchase local agricultural products. You can reach the canyon by long-distance bus from Baise Bus Station or by self-driving. Hiking is the best way to explore—follow the Z-shaped stairs through the primitive gorge to admire the cave wonders and underground river views.
