In just 20 years, China's interior design and renovation industry has evolved from obscurity and neglect to the current unprecedented prosperity, which indeed makes us who are involved in it feel extremely fortunate. However, behind this facade of prosperity, there are also a series of hidden concerns—designers' emotions, excessive commercialization in design; Chinese designers facing strong competition from foreign designers and being in a state of losing the right to speak—these make us very worried. Because we know that these shortcomings will inevitably affect the healthy development of China's interior design industry. As a late-developing country, learning from the experiences of similar countries can help us avoid many detours. Japan and South Korea in East Asia, as our close neighbors, have experiences worth carefully reflecting on. Regarding the selected design works here, I only want to briefly mention one point: their focus on details. It can be said without exaggeration that it is precisely because of their attention to details that their designs become more high-quality. Regrettably, the trend is prevalent in China's current design circles, and the quality of design is often not guaranteed. For this alone, these designs are worth pondering. More importantly, we hope that by publishing this series of books, Chinese interior designers can gain some beneficial inspiration from the practices of Japan and South Korea, which are part of the same East Asian cultural circle, to find solutions to current problems.
