Features: The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion is one of the earliest extant acupuncture (monographs) in China. It is also a summary of acupuncture theory and clinical experience following The Inner Canon, marking another significant milestone in the development of acupuncture. It comprehensively and systematically inherits and summarizes the brilliant achievements of acupuncture before the Jin Dynasty, exerting an extremely profound influence on the advancement of acupuncture in China and playing a crucial role in bridging past and future developments. Therefore, it was hailed by Tang Dynasty physicians as "the secret treasure of medical practice." It has long been revered by generations of physicians and remains one of the indispensable classics for studying traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture theory to this day.
The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion is formally titled The Three Classics of the Yellow Emperor on Acupuncture and Moxibustion, compiled by the renowned Jin Dynasty physician Huangfu Mi. He referenced The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon Suwen, The Spiritual Pivot, and The Essential Treatise on Moxibustion and Acupuncture at the Mingtang, organizing the relevant content of these three works by the method of "grouping related matters together" and editing them with the principles of "eliminating redundant words, removing repetitions, and highlighting the essence." The entire book is divided into 12 volumes and 128 chapters, fully encompassing various aspects of acupuncture history, zang-fu organs and meridians, etiology and pathogenesis, acupoints, and clinical treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion. It is a masterpiece that combines systematic theory with invaluable clinical experience.
This book is based on the Ming Dynasty edition of The Modern and Ancient Medical Canon, with reference to the Ming Zhengtong edition, the Ming blue-grid manuscript, and annotations by later physicians such as The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon Taishi, The Thousand Gold Prescriptions, The Secret Essentials of the External Platform, and The Systematized Inner Canon. In its composition, the book strives to be concise, clear, and easy to understand, with brief annotations and translations to facilitate comprehension and practical application.
