This book was born from the author's frustrations as a resident and his passion for surgical anatomy. During his residency, the author often reviewed surgical approaches in the library before surgeries to reinforce his understanding of key structures and anatomical landmarks. However, in the operating room, he found that the reality was not as depicted in the books. Many books illustrated structures that were overly simplified. Some anatomical used formaldehyde-preserved specimens, whose colors did not match those of living tissues, and were already pre-dissected. In reality, after reaching the subcutaneous tissue, you would only see the deep fascia. The underlying structures could only be seen after dissection, yet some anatomy books depicted them very clearly. However, the purpose of surgical operation is to reach the area to be exposed, not to dissect all structures. This book uses fresh specimens, preserving the original colors of various tissues and structures, and does not aim to dissect everything. Therefore, some photos of the approaches may not be as aesthetically pleasing as those in some books but are relatively realistic and accurate. This book also describes the anatomical landmarks of each approach and how to avoid mistakes. It will give readers an accurate view as they would see during the surgery.
The author's favorite surgical motto is: "A good surgeon can turn danger into safety, and the higher level is not to get into trouble in the first place." This requires knowing where to go and where not to go. The ideal result is to expose every layer of the approach through accurate and sufficient dissection, just like flipping through each page of the book. This book will provide important tools to help you achieve this. The difference between a surgeon who is both good and fast and one who is good but slow lies in their mastery of anatomical knowledge.
