Features: Susan Strange, in this book, provides an in-depth yet accessible introduction to the research objects, scope, theoretical foundations, and major viewpoints of international economics. She particularly highlights the distinction between relational power and structural power. Using a new model that integrates four basic structures (security, production, finance, and knowledge) and four subordinate structures (transportation, trade, energy, and welfare), the book comprehensively explores the interactive relationship between states and markets. It analyzes the complex phenomena of international political economy, striving to establish international political economy as an independent discipline in terms of concepts, methods, and issues. This book has made unique contributions to the development of international political economy, has been highly praised by Western academia, and has become the preferred textbook for international political economy courses in many universities worldwide. Susan Strange is hailed as one of the "great international relations theorists of the 20th century" and is considered one of the three most outstanding Western scholars in the brief history of international political economy, which spans less than 40 years. She has consistently regarded international political economy as a method for understanding the world. In this book, she points out that power exists not only in relationships but also in structures. Structural power refers to the ability to form the rules of the game in a specific domain, and those who determine the rules also decide the processes and outcomes.
