Features: The purpose of writing this book is to serve as a pathway for professionals and students who wish to design clothing and patternmaking through three-dimensional shaping. The book is divided into three major modules. The first major module is Practical Fashion Three-Dimensional Shaping, divided into six chapters. The first chapter is on the fundamentals of three-dimensional shaping, discussing the value of three-dimensional shaping, spatial construction elements, and shaping principles. It introduces the basic content that needs to be understood and mastered in cutting operations, laying the foundation for learning practical operations. This chapter systematically and comprehensively introduces the three-dimensional cutting and patternmaking processes of the top garment prototype, as well as the core structure of women's garments—the principle and application design of dart transfer—giving readers a preliminary understanding of three-dimensional cutting and patternmaking skills and their purpose—achieving an excellent pattern—while boosting confidence in spatial shaping design. Following the principle of progressing from simple to complex and building knowledge step by step, the second chapter introduces garments with relatively simpler making methods. Chapters three and four focus on the three-dimensional shaping of collars and sleeves, showcasing the rich and varied shaping skills, cutting principles, and techniques of collars and sleeves as important components of tops. The basic sleeve pattern uses the flat cutting method because its principles are more suitable and convenient to discuss and elaborate on in a two-dimensional plane. By combining the strengths of both three-dimensional and flat cutting, integrating theory comprehensively, and ultimately adapting to fashion trends, this is one of the key features of the book. Chapters five and six demonstrate the shaping cutting processes of various top garments constructed from two to six sides, with a focus on the cutting techniques and methods of the garment body. The styles include classic and fashionable designs. The second major module operates with non-rational structures, unfolding design and techniques in an improvisational manner, resulting in highly diverse shaping. This includes performance-style, static display-style, and practical-style designs, creating another realm of fashion space shaping. The third major module introduces creative patternmaking techniques for various types of clothing using bias cutting, including mini skirts, dresses, and overcoats, all featuring the latest European-style bias cutting. Unlike the conventional three-dimensional cutting method, the shaping process is reversed: patternmaking is done first, followed by three-dimensional adjustments, which is highly innovative. In terms of form expression, the book is richly illustrated with diagrams and a large number of hand-drawn illustrations to depict the shaping process, making it clear and intuitive. Some design sketches and key shaping operations are also emphasized with high-quality photographic images. This book is suitable for students of higher fashion colleges and universities, as well as serving as a reference for design and patternmaking personnel in the fashion industry. It is also an informative read for fashion enthusiasts.
