Features: Ta'er Monastery, also known as Kumbum Monastery, is named after the Great Silver Pagoda built in the Jiajin Temple to commemorate the founder of the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat sect) of Tibetan Buddhism, Tsongkhapa. In Tibetan, it is called "Gumbum Champa Ling," meaning "The Monastery of the Ten Thousand Lion Roaring Buddhas." It is located in the Lushar Town, southwest of Lianhua Mountain in Huangzhong County, and is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelugpa sect in Tibet, as well as the first-class scenic spot and cultural relic protection unit in Qinghai Province and a key national cultural relic protection unit. The appliqué, murals, and butter flowers in the temples of Ta'er Monastery are known as the "three artistic marvels," with the butter flowers being particularly famous.
