In the early years of the Republic of China, Mr. Wang Dungen compiled a series of books titled "The Hundred Evils Series," which, set against the historical backdrop of the early Republic of China, exposed the various vices and misdeeds of all kinds of people—from high-ranking officials and government departments to all sectors of society, and even those in brothels and gambling dens—who were driven by profit, engaged in self-serving corruption, and committed all sorts of wrongdoings. The accounts in the book were not fictional but were compiled by the editors, who gathered a wealth of materials published in society at the time as their source material, refined them, and then wrote them into the book. Describing contemporary events with the perspective of people from that era provided a more reliable guarantee of the book's credibility. Building upon Mr. Wang's "The Hundred Evils Series," the editors translated it into modern language, selected excerpts, and titled it "The Hundred Evils Unveiled" to present it to today's readers.
