Features: This book introduces the basic commands and usage of SQL for creating databases, retrieving data, and managing databases. The author uses the PremiereProducts database as a, starting from the goal of creating a database, and describes the fundamental knowledge of relational databases, the use of SQL to create tables, insert data, retrieve data from tables, update data, database management, and report generation in a clear and concise language. In the final chapter, it also introduces the method of embedding SQL into COBOL for programming. The book avoids the verbose syntax of the SQL language, starting from simple statements, closely focusing on the basic issues involved in the PremiereProducts database, and describes the usage of SQL commands in an example-based, step-by-step manner. Necessary annotations are provided for easily confused concepts, guiding readers to understand difficulties in the form of "questions" and "answers." Numerous exercises related to the example database are given in each chapter to deepen students' understanding of the learned knowledge. At the same time, the author also provides another database, HenryBooks, for students to imitate operations as part of the exercises, cultivating students' ability to apply the learned knowledge to solve practical problems. Considering the specific teaching environment in China, the translator has added a chapter to introduce two DBMS environments: Oracle8i and MSSQLServer2000. Oracle8i is the environment used by the author of this book, while SQLServer is more widely used in China. After debugging by the translator, most of the main SQL commands in the original book can run in SQLServer.
