Features: The main purpose of this book is to explore fundamental issues of traditional Chinese rural society and even a broader scope, using the gradually formed village of Chenggong Er Village in Yunnan after the 1920s as the background and basing it on the local grassroots social institutions. It comprehensively investigates data and historical realities. This book is an anthropological fieldwork report by the author conducted in the 1940s in southern Sichuan and eastern Yunnan. It authentically records the village conditions of that time, including the natural environment and human conditions, allowing readers to understand the livelihood methods and dispute resolution approaches of the people at the time. It holds high historical value. In the 1940s, I conducted social and historical research in two different ethnic regions: one was Dong Village in eastern Yunnan, which refers to the two rural Han villages in Chenggong County, Yunnan; the other was the Miao villages in southern Sichuan, referring to the Miao ethnic group in Xuyong County, Sichuan. After the founding of New China, a series of social reforms took place, and the conditions of all ethnic groups underwent fundamental changes. Therefore, the social surveys of these two places reveal, to a certain extent, the basic features of traditional China.
