History of the Study of Chinese History (3 Volumes)

Author: Xie Baocheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-10-01
Features: The writing of this book generally follows the principles of the compilation of A History of the Development of Chinese Historiography, striving to retain the basic materials provided in the book while incorporating the development of historiography and disciplinary construction in the new century, and as much as possible, absorbing the latest achievements of historiographical research in the past 20 years. The following adjustments are made:
,"A History of the Development of Chinese Historiography" covers the origins of historiography up to the late 1940s, while this book begins with the emergence of "history" and extends to the rise of the "New Historiography," with the lower limit set at the late Qing Dynasty. The historiography of the 20th century is planned as a separate topic.
Second, A History of the Development of Chinese Historiography is not a collection of dynastic historiographies but rather stages its development based on the internal evolution of historiography itself. This book continues to adhere to this principle, focusing on the evolution and trends of historiography itself, no longer using social formations as the standard for dividing historiographical development. Instead, it combines the examination of Chinese historiography by period with the examination by series, outlining the intertwined development of the mainstream and branches of Chinese historiography. When examining historiography by period, it emphasizes the development of historiographical branches, the characteristics of each series, and the new historiographical phenomena that arise in each period. When examining historiography by series, it maintains the chronological order, focusing on the formation and evolution of each series.
Third, A History of the Development of Chinese Historiography "places emphasis on historiographical theory and thought," while this book, as a foundational research achievement in the discipline of historiographical studies, emphasizes historiographical theory and thought while also integrating fundamental theories, basic knowledge, and basic historical materials as much as possible.
