Tom Sawyer's Cabin

Features: The best way to improve cultural literacy is through reading. Many famous writers have grown up through reading. The author loves literature and was particularly fond of reading long novels in childhood. At first, she read books from her father's workplace library, such as Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Water Margin. By the time she was twenty-one, she had read all of them. Later, when the books in the library were no longer enough, coincidentally, a bookstore began a book rental service, and the author exchanged her meager pocket money for books to read. She read complete collections of Mao Zedong Anthology, Ba Jin Anthology, Mao Dun Anthology, and so on. Although her reading was superficial, she found it endlessly fascinating. During this period, the author mainly read various Chinese classics. Chinese readers first encounter classics through Chinese translations, but many of these translations have unresolved issues. For example, some translations are not made directly from the original language but are translated through other languages, which affects the readers' ability to better understand the original work. Additionally, some translators lack high proficiency in foreign languages, while others have weak foundations in Chinese, and their translations fail to achieve the same effect as the original. I remember when the author was taking translation classes at the Foreign Language Institute, the teacher presented three translations of The Sea Gull for the students to compare. Through careful analysis, everyone agreed that Qu Qiubai's translation was the closest to the original, the most vivid, and the most accurate. This book is presented in a bilingual English-Chinese format, allowing readers to appreciate the artistic depth and exquisite language skills of literary masters through reading. We hope that through this book, we can build a bridge of language, enabling readers to enter the sacred hall of reading the original works and absorb the nourishment of outstanding world culture, thereby cultivating the ability of the new generation of Chinese to master foreign languages.
