Features: Poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving are unified on a single canvas. It is not merely a formal combination and expression, but more importantly, it integrates the essence of humanity and machine into one. There should be a sense of painting in poetry, and a sense of poetry in painting. Poetry and painting may differ in form, but their essence and interest are consistent. Calligraphy and painting share the same origin; ancient pictographic characters were both writing and painting. The maturity of ink-and-wash literati painting techniques and the integration of brushwork and ink from calligraphy art are inseparable. The brushstroke should have strength, bone, and power, with vitality, flexibility, and solemnity—both in calligraphy and painting. Without a foundation in calligraphy, one cannot paint well. With a foundation in painting, the pursuit of formal beauty in the arrangement and structure of calligraphy will reach a higher level. "Seal carving" is also a combination of poetry, calligraphy, and painting. In seal carving, calligraphy, and painting, the pursuit of scholarly elegance is essential. With a high level of poetic and literary cultivation, scholarly elegance will naturally (flow out). Sweet and vulgar charm often arises from a lack of cultivation and a tendency to be overly charming. The inscriptions and side margins of seals often contain poetic phrases, requiring literary refinement. The handling of the knife is a combination of stone and metal studies and calligraphy studies. A small square stone seal, with its combination of lines and negative space, is entirely analogous to painting. Therefore, all literati painters must first possess comprehensive cultivation in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. Even if they lack in one area, they should still understand appreciation. Throughout history, literati painters have devoted their efforts to refining, grinding, and accumulating various forms of cultivation, continuously deepening the cultural content of their works, elevating their artistic character, and reaching the pinnacle, thereby becoming a part of Chinese national culture and standing tall in the forest of world art. This art album includes approximately 120 works (including ink paintings, calligraphy, seal carving, and poetry) by Mr. Lin Kai. These works reflect Mr. Lin's painting skills, calligraphic art, and poetic talent, making him truly a master of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving.
