Features: This dictionary includes over 3,200 words or phrases containing numbers, mostly abbreviations. Festivals, events, and conferences named after numbers are selectively included. Purely adjectival terms, such as "four-square" (), are generally excluded. The dictionary is divided into thirteen parts. The division principles are as follows:
1. Words are divided according to the numbers in the entries;
2. Entries containing multiple numbers are divided according to the number;
3. When entries contain (parallel) numbers, they are divided according to the first number;
4. Some entries containing the words "" (two) or "" (double) are included accordingly.
Word Sorting Rules:
1. In each part, entries starting with numbers are placed before those that do not;
2. Entries are sorted by the French phonetic alphabet of the number, then by tone (if the phonetic alphabet is the same), followed by stroke count (from few to many) if both the phonetic alphabet and tone are identical. If all three are the same, the phonetic alphabet, tone, and stroke count of subsequent characters are considered;
3. English abbreviations in entries are treated as Chinese phonetic alphabet characters during sorting;
4. To look up a word, first check the index, then refer to the corresponding page in the main text.
Main Text Format:
1. Entries with multiple meanings are listed as ①, ②, etc., sorted by chronological order, while those with subentries are listed as (1), (2), etc.;
2. Most entries are supported by book citations, which are sorted chronologically. Terms from the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution era are often difficult to find in contemporary examples, so many are omitted or briefly commented on. Annotations or additions inserted into citations are enclosed in parentheses ( );
3. Many ancient entries include references, marked by phrases like "According to [Book Name]" before the definition or "See [Article Name]" after the definition;
4. Entries with similar or related meanings may have varying levels of detail, with different emphases, so references are marked as "See," "See Also," or "See ××× entry";
5. Obscure characters or easily confused polyphonic characters in entries and definitions are annotated with their Chinese phonetic alphabet.
Appendices:
Appendix I selects some Chinese-English hybrid abbreviations, i.e., English abbreviations or Chinese phonetic abbreviations used alongside Chinese.
Appendix II lists the institutional setup of the Qin and Sui dynasties.
