Features: The author of this book, Li Xinchuan (1167–1224), was a renowned historian of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Song History has a biography of him, but it contains many errors. Recent scholars, such as Professor Wang Deyi of National Taiwan University, have written "The Genealogy of Li Xiuyan" and "A Study of Li Xinchuan's Writings," Professor Lai Kehong of Shanghai University has written "A Chronological Compilation of Li Xinchuan's Life and Works," and Professor Tai Jia of Hangzhou University has written "A Preliminary Exploration of the Historical Sources of the 'Essentials of the Two Dynasties' and the 'Comprehensive Annals of the Reunification'," all of which have made new discoveries about Li Xinchuan and his works, which are worth referencing. In addition to this book, Li Xinchuan's main historical works include the "Annals of Events Since the Jianyan Era" and the "Verification of Ancient Accounts." The "Annals" consists of 200 volumes, recording the historical events of the 36 years of Emperor Gaozong's reign. The sources of its materials are primarily the imperial calendars and the "Comprehensive Annals of the Reunification" of the Gaozong era, with extensive reference to original archival documents and a large number of private writings. These materials were carefully examined and verified by Li Xinchuan, making them highly credible.
