Features: This book primarily introduces the composition, working principles, common models, purchasing, and hardware assembly of various components in a new microcomputer system (such as CPU, motherboard, memory, common input devices, output devices, cases, power supplies, etc.). It also covers the composition and working principles of multimedia computers, installation and debugging, and troubleshooting and repair techniques for common hardware and software failures. Based on the previous two editions, this book has been supplemented with new content, making it even more comprehensive. It is suitable as a textbook for computer majors in vocational and technical colleges, training materials for various microcomputer maintenance courses, and a reference book for microcomputer enthusiasts and users engaged in microcomputer operation and maintenance, offering high practical value.
[Preface] With the rapid development of computer software and hardware technologies and the continuous expansion of computer applications, the number of computer users has increased dramatically. During the use of computers, various failures often occur due to the quality of the computer itself or improper user operation. To help users select high-quality, stable, and reliable microcomputers and smoothly resolve common issues, we wrote the book "Practical Techniques for Computer Assembly and Maintenance." Since the first and second editions of this book were published, they have been reprinted multiple times and have been selected as textbooks for computer maintenance by many institutions, gaining widespread popularity among computer enthusiasts. However, with the swift advancement of microcomputer technology, the main components of microcomputers have been constantly updated, and new external devices have emerged. The original textbook could no longer meet the needs of readers. Therefore, we revised the original textbook on a larger scale, updated the introduction of the composition of microcomputer components (including CPU, motherboard, memory, hard drives, monitors, etc.), and added descriptions and purchasing/maintenance strategies for some new external devices (such as external hard drives, USB flash drives, digital cameras, etc.) to better meet reader requirements.
Combining our years of experience in computer maintenance and teaching practices, we have collected the latest hardware information on microcomputers and provided detailed explanations of the structure, performance, working principles, model selection, installation and debugging, and troubleshooting and maintenance techniques for common software and hardware failures in new microcomputer systems. The revised "Skills Training Course for Computer Assembly and Maintenance" (3rd Edition) mainly includes 11 chapters:
Chapter 1 briefly introduces the components of a computer system and the basic functions of the major components that make up a microcomputer.
Chapter 2 focuses on the composition, classification, and purchasing tips for motherboards.
Chapter 3 discusses the types and purchasing methods of central processors.
Chapter 4 introduces the classification of memory, the basic structures of various storage devices, and their purchasing methods. It covers the classification, interfaces, structures, working principles, data protection technologies, main parameters and technical indicators, mainstream brands and models, and daily maintenance of hard drives. It also includes the classification, purchasing, and maintenance of mobile storage devices such as floppy disks and drives, external hard drives, and USB flash drives. Additionally, it covers the structure, working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing of optical drives, including CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-ROM, DVD burners, and Combos, as well as the types, specifications, capacities, recording principles, and technical parameters of optical media.
Chapter 5 introduces the classification, parameters, and purchasing of common input devices such as keyboards, mice, scanners, and digital cameras.
Chapter 6 covers the classification, working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing of common output devices, including monitors. It discusses the classification, working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing of CRT monitors, as well as the working principles, technical parameters, and purchasing of LCD monitors. It also introduces the basic structure, working principles, and an overview of currently popular graphics cards. Additionally, it covers the classification, working principles, features, technical parameters, and maintenance of printers, as well as the classification, working principles, main components, technical parameters, and purchasing of scanners.
Chapter 7 discusses the classification, structure, and purchasing of computer cases, as well as the classification, structure, cable interfaces, working principles, quality indicators, and purchasing of power supplies.
Chapter 8 covers the purchasing issues of multimedia devices such as sound cards, video cards, and speakers.
Chapter 9 introduces the methods and techniques for assembling microcomputers.
Chapter 10 explains the installation and settings of drivers for Windows 2000.
Chapter 11 primarily introduces the common testing and maintenance methods for microcomputers, as well as common failures and their solutions.
This book features up-to-date content, clear explanations, illustrative visuals, and a well-structured layout, with a focus on the structure, purchasing, and maintenance of basic components. It incorporates the latest hardware products in the current microcomputer market, linking theory with practice. Through studying this book and engaging in practical exercises, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of microcomputer systems while mastering the purchasing strategies, assembly techniques, and troubleshooting and maintenance skills for common microcomputer components. The book is appropriately sized, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical guidance, making it suitable for teaching and self-study. It is ideal as a textbook for computer majors in universities and vocational colleges, training materials for microcomputer maintenance courses, and a reference book for microcomputer enthusiasts and users, with high practical value.
Although the content of this book has been supplemented and revised, due to the authors' limited expertise and tight deadlines, errors and inaccuracies may still exist. We sincerely welcome readers' feedback and corrections.
